Here's How You Can Stream The Outwaters At Home

Fresh off the heels of Kyle Edward Ball's haunting analog horror film, "Skinamarink," horror fans have been served up a delectable bit of dread in the form of Robbie Banfitch's "The Outwaters." /Film's own Lex Brisuco described the film in her review as, "a movie that rightfully feels like our generation's 'Blair Witch Project' but also manages to be unique, specific, and wholly singular." It's a bold statement indeed, but one that is not without merit. "The Outwaters" is compelling, creepy, and loaded with a fresh take on cosmic horror that at times feels downright dangerous. It's the type of found footage movie you feel like you could watch for hours, keeping you glued to the screen with the same sense of morbid curiosity often only found by pre-teens exploring unregulated internet forums at the turn of the millennium.

Written, directed by, and starring Robbie Banfitch, "The Outwaters" is told through memory cards unearthed in a remote stretch of the Mojave Desert about four travelers who disappeared during a harsh, hot camping trip. The film is a complete assault on the senses, as the group is thrown into a twisted and intentionally confusing cacophony of unrelenting terror. "The Outwaters" is currently screening in select theaters, but some may elect to wait to watch the film at home, lest the general movie-going public witness their horrified meltdown when the fight-or-flight responses kick in. This movie scared me fresh out of my skin and I am eternally grateful my career allows me to watch screeners at home so no one can see what a screaming banshee I become when I'm freaked out.

Here's how to stream the film at home if theaters currently aren't your bag.

The Outwaters Is Coming To Screambox

"The Outwaters" is set to release on digital and stream exclusively on Screambox beginning Friday, February 17, 2023. If the platform sounds familiar, it's because this is the same one that houses the massively popular "Terrifier 2." Screambox is a horror platform brought to fruition by Cinedigm and Bloody Disgusting, with an extensive library of all things horror, curated releases, and exclusives that you won't be able to see anywhere else. Screambox is one of the most affordable platforms around, currently charging only $2.25 per month for their ad-supported tier and $4.99 a month for their premium service.

As was recommended for folks watching "Skinamarink" at home, if you're going to check out "The Outwaters" from the comfort of your couch, it's highly recommended that you give yourself as close to a theatrical experience as possible. Turn off the lights, lock up your phone to resist the urge to doomscroll, and let this grotesque, hypnotic film completely wash over you. Give yourself over to the horror, you'll thank me for it later.
