After donning the iconic catsuit as the mysterious Selina Kyle in "The Batman," Zoë Kravitz is having a hard time leaving her fictional life of crime behind her. So instead, she's gearing up to star as a new kind of thief!
"The Sundance Kid Might Have Some Regrets" is an upcoming adaptation of a short story of the same name, which traces the events of a heist gone wrong. That premise alone gives the crime thriller plenty of potential for drama, but it also comes with the addition of a sci-fi twist: a bank robber with supernatural abilities. Intrigued? The film is still in the early stages of development, but that's no reason not to get the hype train rolling! Below is everything you need to know about the upcoming film.
When And Where To Watch The Sundance Kid Might Have Some Regrets
Warner Bros. recently won "The Sundance Kid Might Have Some Regrets" in a bidding war, according to The Hollywood Reporter, so a release date has yet to be revealed and production has only just been announced. It's unlikely that we'll see the film until 2023, if not later. In the meantime, the short story was published in the Lilac City Fairy Tales anthology and author Leyna Krow has a short story collection of her own. In fact, another one of her stories may beat Kravitz's film to the big screen.
Back in 2020, Jordan Peele and Issa Rae signed on to produce "Sinkhole," with Universal Pictures. Much like "The Sundance Kid," this story has a supernatural twist: "Sinkhole" follows a family who moves into their dream home, only to discover a sinkhole in the backyard that somehow fixes broken and destroyed things. The concept poses an unsettling question — how would a "broken" person return from the sinkhole? With two intriguing film adaptations on the horizon, Krow is also on the verge of releasing her debut novel "Fire Season."
What Will The Story Be About?
Based on the Leyna Krow story of the same name, "The Sundance Kid Might Have Some Regrets" centers on a pair of twin bank robbers, one of which boasts supernatural powers. Maggie's abilities include telekinesis and super-strength, both of which come in handy when they're on the job. As for her unnamed sister, she considers herself the face of their operation and serves as the short story's narrator. But as one particular job progresses things begin to spiral: when one of the sisters starts to second-guess their lifestyle, the robbery goes drastically awry and ends in a hail of gunfire. It's a twist on the classic heist premise, weaving in a sci-fi element that severely alters the dynamic between the partners.
What We Know About The Cast And Crew Of The Sundance Kid Might Have Some Regrets
Whether Zoë Kravitz will play one or both of the sisters has yet to be confirmed, but she is set to both star in and produce the film. No other casting news has been revealed. This marks the third project that Kravitz will produce, the previous entries being her acclaimed (and unfortunately canceled) series, "High Fidelity" and her upcoming directional debut, "Pussy Island," a thriller that she wrote alongside E.T. Feigenbaum.
"Pussy Island," which also stars Channing Tatum, centers on Kravitz's Frida, a Los Angeles cocktail waitress who maneuvers her way into the inner circle of a wealthy tech mogul. One thing leads to another and she finds herself enjoying the extravagance of his private island, an epic setting with beautiful people, overflowing champagne, and something terrifying that she just can't put her finger on. Between these two upcoming films, her recently released Soderbergh thriller "Kimi" and her star-making role in "Big Little Lies," it looks like Kravitz has a thing for dramas with dark twists.
No other cast members have been announced for "The Sundance Kid Might Have Some Regrets" and neither a writer nor director have been attached. Matt Jackson ("All the Old Knives") will produce the pic for Jackson Pictures, with Joanne Lee serving as executive producer.
