Everything We Know About Ms. Marvel So Far

It's an exciting time to be a Kamala Khan fan. After winning over countless comic book readers through the years, the Pakistani-American teen is set to make her official live-action debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Among many other distinctions, the upcoming "Ms. Marvel" series will be the first Marvel property to focus on a Muslim character who chases her inspiration to become a superhero in her own right. The character's casting is authentic to the source material and was met with enthusiastic praise. The recent first-look footage from Disney+ Day teased just enough to keep us interested, and the future of the MCU -- led by Kamala Khan and younger characters of her generation -- has never looked more diverse and optimistic. On that note, let's recap everything we know to this point about "Ms. Marvel."

When And Where To Watch Ms. Marvel

As is the case with previous Marvel Studios shows like "WandaVision," "Falcon and the Winter Soldier," "Loki," and "What If...?," as well as upcoming series such as "Hawkeye," "She-Hulk," and "Moon Knight," "Ms. Marvel" will stream exclusively on Disney+ for subscribers. While there's no official premiere date as of yet, we did receive word that the series will hit Disney's streaming service later than originally expected. Initially, the understanding was that "Ms. Marvel" would release before the end of 2021. Since then, the release window has been narrowed down to sometime between July and September of 2022.

What Ms. Marvel Is About

"Ms. Marvel" will tell the origin story of Kamala Khan, detailing her transformation from a regular, Captain Marvel-admiring New Jersey teen to a full-fledged superhero with powers of her own. The Disney+ Day footage, brief as it was, teased the general layout of her arc.

Growing up as a teen in a particular demographic who hasn't been well-represented by the heroes she looks up to, everything changes when Kamala encounters a blast of mysterious energy that gifts her with genuine superpowers. It remains to be seen whether the MCU will hew close to her exact origins from the comic books or, as the studio tends to do, loosely adapt certain aspects as Kevin Feige and his creative team sees fit. Until then, it's clear that the series won't shy away from her Muslim faith, her teenage angst, or her admiration of Captain Marvel, played by Brie Larson. This, of course, sets up Kamala for future appearances in the "Captain Marvel" sequel, "The Marvels."

What We Know About The Ms. Marvel Cast And Crew

Created by Bisha K. Ali, the ten-episode first season of "Ms. Marvel" will be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah ("Bad Boys for Life"), Meera Menon ("Halt and Catch Fire," "GLOW," "Outlander," "For All Mankind"), and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Iman Vellani stars as Kamala Khan, joined by Matt Lintz as Bruno Carrelli, Rish Shah as Kamran, Zenobia Shroff as Muneeba Khan, Laurel Marsden as Zoe Zimmer, Mohan Kapur as Yusuf Khan, and Aramis Knight as Kareem.
