And Just Like That: Release Date, Cast, And More

(Welcome to ...And More, our no-frills, zero B.S. guide to when and where you can watch upcoming movies and shows, and everything else you could possibly stand to know.)

"Sex and the City,"  HBO's groundbreaking series based on Candace Bushnell's book of the same name, revolutionized the way television portrayed sex, relationships, and life for women in their 30s. The show lasted for six seasons and sparked two follow-up films, as well as the two-season prequel series "The Carrie Diaries." Seventeen years after "Sex and the City" season 6 wrapped up, HBO is returning with the next chapter: "And Just Like That..."

Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) are all set to return, though Samantha (Kim Cattrall) will unfortunately not be returning with them. "And Just Like That..." is a direct continuation of "Sex and the City" that explores how the lives of our favorite New York gals have changed since we last saw them, and how they're learning to navigate life in their 50s. Here's everything you need to know about "And Just Like That..." and more.

And Just Like That... Release Date And Where You Can Watch It

The 10 episode series will debut with the first two episodes on Thursday, December 9, 2021 on HBO Max, with the following eight episodes premiering weekly on Thursdays. All of "Sex and the City" is currently available to stream on HBO Max if you're hoping to binge in time for the new series' debut.

What Is And Just Like That... About?

Showrunner Michael Patrick King and Sarah Jessica Parker came up with the idea for the show when planning a potential "Sex and the City" podcast during the start of the pandemic. However, they immediately pivoted to creating an entirely new series in order to explore how the pandemic would impact the lives of all of the characters we know and love, as well as showcasing the change in health, political, environmental, and social landscapes since 2004.

"And Just Like That..." is set in the present day, through the lens of the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the trailer, we know that Carrie has been making many radio show/podcast appearances on a show hosted by the non-binary character Che, and we suspect the revival series will reveal that Miranda is not fully straight

And Just Like That... Cast

Joining Parker, Nixon, and Davis in "And Just Like That..." are a number of new faces, including Sara Ramírez ("Grey's Anatomy"), Sarita Choudhury ("The Green Knight"), Nicole Ari Parker ("Empire"), Karen Pittman ("Luke Cage"), Isaac Cole Powell ("West Side Story"). Other fan-favorite "Sex and the City" characters are also joining the girls in their comeback tour: Aidan Shaw (John Corbett), Mario Cantone (Anthony Marentino), Steve Brady (David Eigenberg), Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler), Bitsy Von Muffling (Julie Halston), and of course, Mr. Big (Chris Noth). "And Just Like That..." also marks the last performance of character actor Willie Garson, who returned for his role as Stanford Blatch.

Alexa Swinton, Cree Cicchino, Niall Cunningham, Bobby Lee, and Cathy Ang have been cast in undisclosed capacities while Brenda Vaccaro, Christopher Jackson, LeRoy McClain, and Ivan Hernandez have been cast in recurring roles.

And Just Like That... Director, Writers, And More

Michael Patrick King is returning as showrunner for "And Just Like That..." with Samantha Irby, Rachna Fruchbom, Keli Goff, Julie Rottenberg, and Elisa Zuritsky joining him on the writing team. Rottenberg and Zuritsky will also serve as executive producers. While "Sex and the City" costumer designer and collaborator Patricia Field didn't return for the revival series, she did recommend her friend and colleague Molly Rogers to join the creative team as a fashion consultant.
